Smiling at Lions

Dandelions are on my mind lately even though snowflakes were filling the sky today. My new notebook appears to have dandelions sketched on the cover. I think that is what caused me to become a little wrapped up in the symbolism of a dandelion. For me a dandelion symbolizes a gift from little hands. A reflection of the light that gives me and everything around me life. A reminder that even though they all look the same each is different. Dandelions are special. Don't you remember blowing on a dandelion? Remember the excitement? Just for a moment, close your eyes and imagine blowing one into the wind. You'll smile.

  1. I love the title for this slice and your words to link a slice, grab a slice and enjoy serving after serving (and it's all calorie free)! Thinking about dandelions did make me smile. I took the time this summer to blow one into the wind!

  2. Just the other day I had dandelions on my mind, too. I,also, was remembering the joy of finding one and blowing on it. The total delight. Ahhhh....I smiled and am smiling as your writing reminds me once again. Thank you.

  3. Love the sketch, Betsy. One of our favorite family stories is when my son came home one day (perhaps about 7 years old) & was excited because it was the beginning of spring & he said he had seen a dandelion. His little sister, then 3, burst into tears & said, "I want a baby lion." Dandelions are those special little gifts we get free.

  4. Great analogy - each one is different, just like the little hands that give them lovingly to you. This made me smile today!

  5. I've been working on a poem about dandelion wisps getting lost in the snow. Must be something in the air. What a gorgeous picture. I smiled the second I saw it.
