This Girl

A little curl of hair
at the nape of your neck
spaghetti crusted cheeks
and a sauced up head
a little toothy grin
revealing pearly whites
you cheese them all up
then flash, you smile bright.

You clap and sing and dance
with your little toddled legs
One step, two step
our fingers interlace
I lift you like a hero
spinning round and round
I'll never let you go
may you never touch the ground.

My youngest is turning eight tomorrow. Need I say more. I was thinking tonight about what a spunky toddler she was, she's still spunky, but we forget some of those years when our kids were toddling around. Life is so different now.

  1. This poem is such a beautiful gift that I am sure she will treasure. I love how you captured her essence as a toddler.

  4. Happy Birthday to your daughter. It goes so fast. I love the "one step, two step," you captured the joy of her smile. And the desire of a mom to never let them go.

  7. Such a beautiful poem! It flows so well and then suddenly it's done. Like when they're little. It goes by so fast.

Happy birthday to your little one!
