A Poetry Inspired Night into Morning

 Hosted by Random Noodling

A little chalking before my night was done.
This was a collab with my husband.

Whispering ferns
wake to the morning moon.
Without words like the sparrow
they unfurrow.

(If you like to "chalk" your poetry,
remember to share it here on
April 30th at Teaching Young Writers
for a poetry chalking celebration)!

Just

The peace
of my morning.

No twinkling of day.
No cool on my coffee.

Just quiet.
Just darkness.

The piece
of my morning.

  2. I'll be back April 30th if the weather allows.
I like the line, 'no cool on my coffee'. That moment in my day when it is still dark, the house is still quiet, and my coffee is still warm is far too short

    1. Yep, that is the time of my day I was talking about; far too short is so true!

  3. Both are so nice, Betsy, "without words from the sparrow, they unfurrow". I love how the ferns grow, love watching that magical work they do when they grow. And, like Katya, that line 'no cool in my coffee' is exactly right, that quiet time, listening to birds waken, is so sweet. Thanks for both!

    1. I savor those ten minutes, if they last that long, in the morning when everything is still a little bit quiet and my coffee is hot.
Our ferns haven't started growing yet, but I was thinking about them the other day and how they fill out and swish around in the wind. Made me think they might be whispering something to me!

    1. It is pretty fun. I really wonder what my neighbors think and then I do it anyway! ;)

  6. Yes, I just wish that peace was a bigger piece! I figure it keeps my neighbors guessing--what's she up to now??

  8. Oh Betsy, how beautiful to share this passion with your artistic husband. I like the whole 'whispering ferns' - the secrets they share to our ears alone. :)
