Sometimes Discouraged

Sometimes I get discouraged. Today is Chalk-A-Bration day. I have my loyal chalkers. Margaret Simon, Linda Baie, Liz Steinglass and Robin Sheldon. There are the occasional chalkers. There are those who love the idea but don't really have the time. There are those who just forget. Sometimes it rains, been there done that. Not an easy chalk day for sure. It snows, even harder. So, sometimes I am discouraged. Why do I continue doing this? Well, it brings me joy. It seems to make others happy, even if they don't find the moments to chalk. It's okay. It really is. I know what good intentions are. I have plenty of them. (The pile of laundry that needs to be folded, probably not happening tonight). I need to continue to find the joy in chalking poetry. Even when I can't find the words to share. Even when I can't find the right color or get the photo just right. I will find the joy in chalking a poem. It is a happy thing.

  1. I love this chalkabration that you are writing about. The way you feel today about chalkabration is the way I feel about book fairies. We dress up once a year during homecoming week as book fairies...people aren't feeling it this year. I did it anyway. It brought join and happiness to me and to the students. It sounds like chalkabration does the same thing on a monthly basis. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. Betsy, I know this is the last thing in the world you want to hear right now, but I had planned on getting teachers from my school involved. It was on my calendar the whole month, and I kept pushing it further down my list. Now I'm sorry. Ugh. Next time?

I'm glad you are going to keep doing it. It brings you and others joy. Keep it up!

  4. Betsy, I should have made time to chalk my OLW acrostic. Can I do it tomorrow? Or should I wait for next month? Who knew retirement would be so busy that I'd miss Chalk-a-Bration.

  5. I really need to get on the ball with prepping for this in advance. The other thing is that I'm just not big into the chalk medium. Maybe it's because I don't have quality chalk. Not sure. Anyway, I'm going to put my $ where my mouth is. You send me the name of the kind of sidewalk chalk to use and I will buy it and COMMIT to doing Chalkabration this month.

    1. Aw, thanks Stacey. I know, the chalk can feel a little, well, chalky! I just use Crayola brand bright chalk. It is smooth and shows up well.

  6. My students cheer when they hear the word "Chalkabration." I am not always pleased with their results but I always love how happy it makes them. It must be harder for teachers with large classes. I have the luxury of small groups. I put chalk on my requisition list this year so I have a big supply for the year.
I am like you with my DigiLit Sunday. I wanted to try creating a round up. I have some loyal followers, but it hasn't been as successful as I had hoped. What is the magic formula for getting others involved? I wish I knew.
