A Slice of the Moon
I step outside
I step inside
I look one more time
I step back outside
Fresh cool air hits my lungs
It is welcomed.
There is a gleam
A sheen
On the glaze of ice
That encases the snow
On my front yard
The glittering sparkle
Shines brightly
From the moonlight.
I smile
Its light hits my eyes
I feel the sparkle in me
It is a slice of the moon
Saying hello
And goodnight.

I enjoy writing and reading about nature, especially the things we tend to take for granted. I noticed an amazing, full moon two nights ago and wrote a slice about it. I love the way you crafted your "slice of the moon".
ReplyDeleteLove me some moon. Sweet slice. Very Oliver.
ReplyDeleteIt has been beautiful lately with the icy snow crust and the bright full moon. You captured it well in your poem.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! this makes me want to savor these chilly days, even though I'm wishing for spring most days!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you can find the beauty in what most people dislike. Especially like the line..feel the sparkle in me
ReplyDelete"There's a gleam, a sheen,on the glaze of ice..." That is exactly what it looks like right now in Grand Rapids, MI. I saw it last night! Beautiful words and they are just right.
ReplyDeleteThe moon is so very old, yet I never tire of its beauty or its use in poetry. I love how the snow can look blue in moonlight.

ReplyDeleteI looked out my window and saw the bright moon as I read your poem. I went outside to see if it was gleaming on the snow, but the glow was all in the sky. It is so white-bright tonight. And I can see the rabbit instead of the man in the moon!
