I Am Not (I Am)
I have the day off tomorrow. Nothing could be sweeter after a week of conferences and craziness going on in my classroom right now. I was thinking today after reading a few slices about how I define myself, and realized, I don't. And, I'm okay with that.
This piece was inspired by, I-Here-Now, and Robin Sheldon, thanks for taking me in this direction.
I am not:
defined
refined
delusional
exclusional
afraid
swayed
untamed
ashamed
I am:
musical
whimsical
educated
dedicated
peaceful
grateful
upbeat
with a heartbeat.

This made me smile!! Betsy, this is wonderful and it's sooo YOU! Enjoy your day off tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think you touched on why it was hard. It is not easy to define yourself like this. But, I think you did a great job of it! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteLove the quick pace! Made me smile (and feel connected) too!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to define oneself, you were able to do it with a rhyme, which did not surprise me. Nice!
ReplyDeleteThat was interesting because I too was self evaluating in a different sort of way. Sometimes I get wrapped up in what I am not. So much more positive when you think about what you are.
ReplyDeleteI also marked Robin's post as a mentor slice, although I am finding this piece of writing difficult for me. Maybe it is because of how hard it is to define oneself. I love how you added rhyme to yours. Enjoy your day off tomorrow. After conferences, I know you deserve it.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is what I adore about you. No one can put you in a box and say you are just one way, one thing, or one type of person. You're unique. And that's a very special way to be!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day off tomorrow!
This was fun - and you inspired me!
ReplyDeleteLove the contrast and the movement through the piece. Thanks for sharing!
